The 1 % LPC failure rate is a design probability, not a target to be “achieved” by force. No analyst can “make” an assay fail exactly 1 % of the time — it is a probabilistic outcome that becomes evident only after sufficient data accumulation.


1. The Meaning of 1 % in Practice

The 1 % rule defines the expected fraction of low-positive results that will fall below the cut point under stable analytical variability.
It is not a quality-control quota to be met every week.

Therefore:

  • A single run showing 2 % or even 3 % LPC failure does not imply that the assay has degraded.

2. Why Arbitrary LPC Adjustment Is Misleading

Raising the LPC concentration every time the observed failure rate exceeds 1 % breaks the statistical design. Such adjustment replaces a probabilistic specification with a moving empirical target, masking the true assay performance.

4. Probabilistic Convergence
